🇰🇷 Korea Transportation Guide for Travelers

From city subways to island flights, here’s everything you need to know to travel Korea with ease.

🚇 1. Urban Transportation in Korea

Subway

Most major cities in Korea—including Seoul, Busan, and Daegu—have excellent subway systems. They're fast, clean, and foreigner-friendly with English signs. Download apps like KakaoMetro or Subway Korea to easily plan routes and see arrival times.

Bus

City buses are color-coded based on their type (e.g., blue for trunk, green for local in Seoul). Stops are announced in English, and fares are low. You can pay with a T-money card, which is widely accepted.

Taxi

Taxis come in standard (silver/orange) and deluxe (black) types. Use the Kakao T app for reliable bookings. Most taxis accept cards. Note that traffic can be heavy during peak hours.

T-money Card

A reloadable transportation card that works on subways, buses, and even some taxis. Available at subway stations and convenience stores like GS25, CU, and 7-Eleven.

✈️ 2. Airport to City Transfers

Incheon Airport → Seoul

  • AREX Express Train: Direct to Seoul Station in ~45 minutes.
  • Limousine Buses: Stops at major hotels and neighborhoods.
  • Taxi: Comfortable but more expensive (~70,000 KRW to central Seoul).

Gimpo Airport → Seoul

Linked by AREX and Subway Line 5. Mostly used for domestic and short-haul flights.

Jeju Airport → City

No subway; use airport limousine buses to reach Jeju City or Seogwipo (60–80 min).

🚄 3. Intercity Travel – KTX, SRT, Express Buses

KTX (High-Speed Train)

Best way to travel long distances fast.
Seoul → Busan: ~2.5 hours
Book via KorailTalk app or letskorail.com.

SRT

Another high-speed option, departs from Suseo Station (southern Seoul). Slightly cheaper than KTX and just as fast.

Express Buses

Great budget-friendly option with frequent departures.
Major Seoul terminals: Central City, Dong Seoul, Nambu
Use Kobus or TxBus to check schedules and book seats.

🏝️ 4. Getting to Jeju Island

Flights

Daily flights from Gimpo, Gimhae (Busan), Daegu, and others.
Book via airlines like Jeju Air, T'way, Korean Air.

Ferries

Depart from Wando, Mokpo, Busan, and more.
Travel time: 3 to 12 hours depending on route.
Great if you're bringing a car or want a slower scenic route.
